The single screw steam ship was built in 1921 by Livingstone Cooper Limited, in Hessle on Humber for wine trader Societe Navale de L’Ouest and named Saint Dominique. Once renamed Saint Rominique, it was registered to Forth Shipbuilding & Engineering until 1924 when it was purchased by the Union Steam Ship Company and again renamed Kairanga. Itoperated on the Trans-Tasman service until 1956 when it was sold to Teh Hu S.S. Company Ltd. On 7 March 1940 it collided with the Empire star on Sydney Harbour and narrowly avoided sinking by being run ashore. In 1956 new owners changed its name to Amelia. In 1967 it was registered to Cia. de Nav Victoria Neptuno S.A. (Panama) and sold to Fuji Marden & Company for scrapping in Hong Kong that year.
