This was the tenth ship of the Komata class and was launched by Barbara Twhigg, the daughter of a director of Union Company from 1903 -1931.
Kaituna II was built in 1956 by A. Stephen & Sons Ltd., Linthouse, for the USSCo. fleet. She was laid up in Auckland on 5 December 1974 and sold to Climax Shipping Corp., Monrovia, the Maldives Shipping Ltd. Male, on 23 July 1975, and renamed Climax Jade.
In 1976 she was transferred to Maldives Shipping Co. ownership and renamed Maldive Jade. she was on sold to Fortune Shipping Co. Ltd., Male, in 1981 and managed by Maldives National Shipmanagement Ltd., Male, when she was renamed Fortune Seagull.
On 29 July 1984 she was laid up at Colombo and on 31 January 1985 was sold to Pakistan Shipbreakers, arrivingat Gadani Beach for scrapping on 23 January 1985.
