Karamea 1978-2003

The Karamea was a tugboat built in 1978 by Scheepswerf Jonker & Stans at Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, Netherlands. It was originally called the Schotland but when it was purchased by the Union Steamship Company (USSCO) in 1997 it was renamed to the Karamea.

 It was laid up in Lyttelton for many years under the name of Frederick Brown before being sold. In 2003 both the Karamea and the Union Bulk I sailed to the Middle East as it was sold to Kuwaiti owners. The Karamea was one of the last ships to depart after the final dissolution of the USSco.
