The Karoon was a twin screw motor vessel built in 1951 by State Dockyard, Carrington on Newcastle Harbour, Australia. It was launched on 27 January 1951 from Newcastle Harbour. It had a sibling ship, the Kootara which was launched the following year. The Karoon worked for Union Steamship Company as a cargo vessel from 1951 to 1968, mainly as a general cargo ship between Tasmania, Sydney and Melbourne. Its only incidents of note were on 23 November 1958 where it collided with the Warringa off Eddystone Point, Tasmania where it received minor damage. It again ran aground on Corsair Reef, Port Phillip Bay on 8 September 1963 also with minor damage.
In 1968 it was sold to Miller Steamship Company, Sydney Australia and renamed Lisa Miller. It was then sold again to Perkapalan Sinwen Marine, Kuala Lumpur and renamed, Southern Cross and then Southern Glory in 1979.
In 1993 it was abandoned in rough weather while on passage from Muara Port to Singapore and sank.
