MV Risdon 1959-1984

The Risdon was built with a single screw motor in 1959 by Alexander Stephen and Sons at Linthouse, Glasgow. It was the last of the K class series built to carry zinc concentrates from Ridson, near Hobart, to Port Pirie on the Australian mainland. 

In 1975 trade of zinc concentrates stopped and the Risdon was sold to Maldives Shipping Limited, Malé, Maldives and renamed Maldive Navigator. Over the next few years it was sold 3 more times; in 1976 to Sorysin Cia Nav SA, Panama City, Panama and renamed Panagia Spiliani, in 1979 it was transferred to Spiliani Shipping Company SA, Panama City, Panama, in 1980 its management changed again to Yannadis Brothers Shipping Company SA, Piraeus, Greece.

It had a steady career, only running into trouble on 16 April 1981 where the ship was grounded off the coast of Warri, Nigeria, but it was safely refloated and sailed to dock at Duala, Cameroon. 

On 6 June 1984 after 25 years of service, it was sold to Indian shipbreakers and arrived at Bedi for demolition.
