Soroptimist International has sought to bring about change to the lives of women and girls worldwide to achieve their individual and collective potential. The group is driven by its mission of transforming lives through education, empowerment and enabling opportunities.
Soroptimist International of Wellington was formed in 1939 where prominent businesswomen had come together to build on the values of the club and in a Wellington, New Zealand, context.
In 1984 the Wellington East club was formed to take in the Eastern suburbs of Island Bay, Newtown, Mt. Cook and Roseneath.
Committees were formed for various functions of the club - stipulated from its inception, that fundraising was not the only facet of the organisation, but in conjunction with committees dedicated to finance, membership, publicity, welfare, hospitality and social.
