The objective of this project initiated in 1990 was to identify houses of special interest in Thorndon and to focus on Thorndon’s unique combination of heritage houses. The project aimed to highlight Thorndon’s heritage architecture and promote community awareness through the installation of Notable Home plaques. Records include correspondence between the society members, and the homeowners related to the installation of the Notable Home plaque on their property.

The series also contains documents outlining the objectives and procedures of the project, including the selection and award process, as well as a general history of the Thorndon Society and a specific overview of historic homes on Hobson Street. A set of color photographic prints, dated circa 1994, depicts selected houses in Thorndon. Most of these photos are accompanied by a sheet listing metadata such as building address, architect, and year of construction.
