The Mobil Street Race, also known and the Wellington 500 and Nissan Mobil 500, was a street race for touring cars that transformed the Wellington waterfront into a racing circuit. The first was held in 1985 and the last was 1996. In 1987 the race was a leg in the 1987 World Touring Car Championship. Rising costs and the construction of Te Papa changing the layout of the waterfront caused the end of these races.
