Built in1929at Fairfield Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. Govan, Clyde for Canadian Pacific Steamships. She operated between Vancouver and China and Japan until 1940, when she was refitted for war service. She was involved in the evacuation of Singapore in 1941 when the Japanese launched a war in the Pacific and called at Wellington while troop carrying.
In 1942 she was renamed Empress of Scotland. After the war she served on the Atlantic . Between 1948 and 1950 she was modified to improve her for the Atlantic weather.
In 1957 she was laid up and sold the next year to the Hamburg Amerika Line when she was renamed Hanseatic and had a funnel removed. She continued service between Hamburg and New York until 26th September 1966 where she caught fire and burned. On 28th September she was to Hamburg where she was declared a loss. Hanseatic was scrapped soon after.
