Descriptive Data
Archives IdentifierFJ001Date Range1930s-1980sDescriptionRecords created by Bernard Winton Johns, both private files and files relating to his work as an architect.
The personal files relate to family history research (including an application to The Pictorial Who's Who and information on the fountain his father Henry had built in Whanganui when he was Deputy Mayor there), as well as other subjects, including Bernard's interest in the proposal for a 'Great North Road' and in a Jet Foil operating across Cook Strait.
The architectural plans relate to work done by Bernard later in his career, following his move to Levin in 1967. As well as sets of plans for a number of houses he designed there is a scrapbook of photographs of his work.
The series also includes a copy of New Zealand Architect magazine from 1983, which featured an article about Bernard's life and work. Along with the magazine are the prints of photographs that were used to illustrate the article.
This series does not include architectural plans for buildings Bernard designed in Wellington, as these are held as part of the building permit records already held by City Archives.MediumFileSystem of ArrangementThere was not a clear system of arrangement, so the order is based largely on a rough subject grouping or the order that it had been boxed.External LinksBernard Johns records at the Turnbull LibraryCollection TypeCommunity archives
