In 1975 an arrangement was made with the Union Steam Ship Company for Tasman Pulp and Paper Company Ltd. to own and operate two ships exclusively for transporting the company's products to Australia and the South Island. For this purpose, the MV Tasman Enterprise was built.
Tasman Enterprise and sister Tasman Venture were specialist side-loading forestry product carriers built in Japan for the trans-Tasman trade. they were distinctive for their side-loading capability.
In 1978 the sister ships were affected by the Kawerau dispute and were delayed in the Auckland harbour when the workers at the paper mill went on strike for 35 days. A combined total of 124 crew members were on board the company's ships, Tasman Venture and Tasman Enterprise, which berthed alongside a lay-up berth at the western viaduct until the dispute was resolved.
The "Tasman Enterprise" was sold to Panamanian owners in 1997 and renamed "Forest Enterprise" but suffered engine damage and was sold to Chinese breakers.
