Archives Identifier00170Date Range1928-1973DescriptionThe Wellington City and Suburban Water Supply Board was created in 1927 by statute to control the watershed that supplied water to the greater Wellington region. The catchment area included the Akatarawa and Orongorongo valleys and the Hutt Valley. Members of the Supply Board included the Mayor & Councillors of Wellington City, Councillors representing Eastbourne & Hutt County Council, and the Mayors of Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt and Petone. It was chaired by the Mayor of Wellington. The Board made an annual report to the Commissioner of State Forests. Eastbourne withdrew in 1945, the Johnsonville Town Board and Makara joined in the same year. Petone and Lower Hutt withdrew for a period and later rejoined. Tawa Flat joined in the early 1950s. Responsibility for the region's water supply was taken over by the Wellington Regional Council in 1973. Volumes may include reports, newspaper cuttings, maps and plans as well as minutes.
