Archives Identifier00300Date Range1900-1904DescriptionThis series consists of a single letter book containing copies of outward letters from the Town Clerk to the Tramways Manager. They are addressed to The Manager (A. Hall), Acting Manager or Mr Petersen. The letters are mainly short memos passing on incoming letters and instructing the Manager about staff, drivers, works, supplies, and equipment, in particular the sale of horses and the setting up of electric trams, and routine matters about timetables, tram stops, tickets, and advertising. They also record the resignation of Hall and the appointment of Petersen as Acting Manager. It is not known if there were other volumes created but this series was possibly begun in response to the Council takeover of the City Tramways Company in August 1900.

There was a large amount of correspondence created during this period as the Council changed from horse-drawn to electric trams. There was a Tramways Standing Committee and a Special Karori Tramways Committee from September 1903 - May 1904. (See 00172:0:1 WCC Minute book Tramways Committee) The series ends after only a few years, partway through the single volume.
