Archives Identifier00327Date Range1899-1919DescriptionThis series consists of two cash books that record financial information about receipts from rates and other sources (dog licenses, hall hire, etc) and payments out for salaries and wages, for accommodation rents, for services (cartage, rubbish removal, etc.) and for equipment and supplies.
Up to 1904 they record rates and other receipts with the name of person or business, but then these are just summarised - rates by ward and others by type - dog tax, licenses, etc. One column cross- references to the 'R. C. B. Folio' - Rate Cash Book page number - see Series 00326. Payments made out are recorded by the names of persons or businesses, but some are also summarised, such as 'Men's wages'.
The entries are grouped - ' General Accounts' and then by ward name or specific accounts, such as 'Khandallah Hall A/c'. The receipts page is divided into columns for date, names, comments, and others by dates with various headings and sub-headings - Rates General, Charitable, 10% overdue, Loans, Light, Water, Misc., Dog tax, [various] Licenses, Rents from Buildings, Halls, Trust A/c, By-laws, Works for residents.
The payments out pages have date, name, type of services or equipment, etc., and heading columns such as: Salaries, Advertising, Printing, Stationery, Legal, Election, Roads, Water, Lighting, Charitable Aid Board, Interest, Sinking Fund, Hospital Board, Catchment A/c, etc. Near the end (p.52, 31 Mar 1919) is the inscription: Examined.
