Content Warning: Notice about sensitive content

Wellington City Council (WCC) Archives aims to ensure an inclusive, accessible, and equitable environment for our customers, including remote users making use of our collections online.

WCC Archives is the in-house archive for the Wellington City Council. It preserves and makes accessible records primarily created by the Wellington City Council. A small number of items managed by the Archives were accepted from Wellington-based community groups in the past.

Records reflect the attitudes of the times they were created in and may include content which may be regarded harmful, offensive, or misrepresentative.  When language is supplied by the creator of original archival materials to describe or name them, it is recognised as best practice to retain this information preventing censorship or alteration of the historical record.

We control how our content is described, contextualised, and presented online to our users. When potentially sensitive content has been identified, we aim to provide a warning empowering users to make decisions on how to proceed.

If you encounter content that you find offensive, please contact us with your concerns and a link to the record in question. We also encourage you to contact us if you have concerns about researching a particular topic and the risk of encountering offensive materials.
