Archives Identifier00353Date Range1891-1916DescriptionThis series contains copies of the outwards correspondence from the Karori Borough Town Clerk to officials in central government and other local bodies, to the Mayor and Councillors, to businesses, contractors and suppliers, to local societies and to ratepayers. It does not contain correspondence to other Karori Borough officers. The letters were sent to inform ratepayers about decisions taken by the Council in relation to requests or petitions they have made. The letters cover the whole range of activities and concerns of local government, especially in relation to rates, roads, property, etc. These is a least one volume missing, within the sequence and probably several after 1916, Between volumes 7 and 8, there is gap between 13 Dec 1909 and 23 Aug 1911. The surviving volumes end in 1916, some years before amalgamation with Wellington City. At the beginning of the opening volume the letters are signed by R Caldwell as Town Clerk, and in September 1894 W F England takes over.
