Archives Identifier00370Date RangeAugust 1963-November 1974DescriptionThe entries in the two registers are not simply numerical - they are divided into sections by district, a suburb name, such as Brooklyn, Wadestown, Island Bay, Ngaio, Karori, Khandallah, Kilbirnie, Miramar/ Seatoun and Northland. (There are no entries for the central city or Newtown.) They are further subdivided by year and month. A number of entries however are for properties on streets not within the designated suburb - such as Shelly Bay Road in the 'Northland' pages. The handwriting varies according to the suburb section and entries are carried over from the first to second volume at varying dates. A note v.1 p. 339 records: 'For any numbers that are missing from the Miramar section of this book turn to page 374 and you will find then under the Northland label. (Confusion)' These features indicate that the volumes were created not as registers, but as working documents for each inspector, recording the properties each was responsible for within the month specified. The descriptive elements of each entry include: the permit number, the type of work (garage, etc), the property address, the lot and deposited plan numbers, and a reference to the relevant map sheet, such as W-23.
