The accounts are signed by the Town Clerk, and/or the City Treasurer. The lists often refer to separate listings of accounts passed by the Public Works Committee, and also by the Wharf Committee. Some copies of the latter are pasted into the book. The entries usually give the date, the names of persons/ businesses and the nature of the work, services or supplies paid for, such as: Curtis Cartage, Mrs Knight Washing or sometimes in the form of a street name: Hays & Co. Abel Smith Street. The information given in other columns varies - some refer to Wharf tolls, Loans, Current [amount] and Total [amount].
