The end result of this process is offical government plans lodged with the Department of Survey and Land Information/ Land Information New Zealand (LINZ). These records relate to Z plans up to Z 510 only, and not all files were considered worth retaining. Originally the file envelops contained working papers, such as background documents (certificates of title, copies of lands and survey plans), correspondences between Survey Branch & Dept of Lands and Survey/ LINZ, copies of survey field notes, traverse sheets and calculations, admininistration and finance forms, receipts, etc. Duplicated documents and copies held in government collections have been removed; the series contains only documents found to have archive value such as original correspondence, explaining background and issues with the survey processes; and the final form confirming plan, with final identification, information and references.
