The reports are a yearly review of the overall performance of department. They include summaries and commentary on the departments' financial performance and of significant projects undertaken during the year, as well as abstract statements of revenue and expenditure and balance sheets. Until 1957 the reports cover both the Tramways (later known as the Transport department) and the Electricity department. The department responsible for electricity has undergone a number of name changes over the years. Until 1925 it was referred to on the reports as the Electric Lighting Department, from 1925 until 1947 it was known as the Electricity Department and from 1947 the Municipal Electricity Department.
