Archives Identifier00589Date Range1906-1936DescriptionThis series contains the remnants of the annual number file system used by the Tramways and Electric Lighting (later Electricity) Departments. It was in use from 1906-1927, though a small number of files have had papers after 1927 placed on them. Most of the files that made up this system have been either renumbered, placed on later files or destroyed. Papers that were originally in this system can be found in the later Multiple Number Subject system of filing (Series 00590) as well as the file systems of the Transport Department (Series 00062) and the Municipal Electricity Department (Series 00591). Other papers from this system can also be found in the MED 500 Series Historic files (Series 00573). The remaining files in this series all relate to Tramways matters.

This series also includes a small amount of estray correspondence that was donated to City Archives, which dates to this period but does not match or link to any specific correspondence files or file numbers.
