Archives Identifier00590Date Range1916-1950DescriptionThis series contains the remnants of the Multiple Number Subject file system used by the Tramways (later Transport) and Electricity Departments. It was in use from 1938-1949, though papers from earlier file systems were placed on these files. Most of the files that made up this system have been either: renumbered, placed on later files or destroyed by the Transport and Electricity Departments. Papers that were originally in this system can be found in the later file systems of the Transport Department (Series 00062) and the Municipal Electricity Department (Series 00591). Other papers from this system can also be found in the MED 500 Series Historic files (Series 00573). All extant files have a 2/- prefix and references have been found to other sub series, but exactly how the classification system worked is unknown.
