The personal information can date back to 1919. Cards can (but not all do) record prior service, name, age, place of birth, date of first joining, Union number, position (steward, cook, baker, waiter, pantryman, scullion, bugler, pianist) with description (forecabin, bedroom, boots, etc.), name of ship, dates of service, reasons for leaving and dates, and the port where they departed. There are multiple cards for long-serving staff and a few have attachments such as notes re sickness, military service, newspaper clippings re criminal offences, etc. From about 1906 a card system was being created as well as the register.
