They vary in title: Return of staff, Ships' staff reports, Reports from vessels regarding officers, Masters confidential reports, etc. Some include a list of ships. The time periods covered by the files are November 1909-February 1918; 1905-1910; 1912; 1927; 1930-1932; 1964-1965; 1968-1974. The forms vary but most record ship name, name, rank, .. and masters' comments on the capabilities of the crew, either generally or individually. The 1974 file cover records that the form was dispensed with by the Fleet Manager in February 1975.
