TypeAgencyDate Range1991-1994DescriptionThe Strategic Planning and Policy Division was created as a separate unit after the restructuring of Council which took effect in September 1991. As at October 1991 its functions included environmental scanning, Capital Forum, Maori Unit, city vision and development strategy, corporate planning (covering strategy and the annual plan, policy evaluation, programme and service reviews, and special projects). The Council annual report for 1992/1993 describes its role as helping the Council and the people of Wellington establish a clear vision for the city and determining how best to achieve that vision. It assisted the Council in developing the plans and policies that set out its role, direction and priorities. It produced discussion papers, analyses and guidelines, conducted city priority and client satisfaction surveys, interviewed councillors and management, and worked on the Council's Strategic Plan. A review in early 1994 divided the Division into three departments: Maori, Strategic Planning and Policy, and Corporate Planning. After 1 April 1994, the Maori and Strategic Planning and Policy departments became part of an enlarged Chief Executive's Office; the Corporate Planning Department transferred to the Finance Division. When the Corporate Office was set up late in 1994, Strategic Planning and Policy became one of its units.
