TypeAgencyDate RangeNovember 1991-1995?DescriptionThe Environment Division was established as a result of the amalgamation of the larger part of the Town Planning Department with the Building and Environmental Health Departments. According to the Council annual report for 1992/1993, the Environment Division aimed to improve the quality of life for all those living in or visiting Wellington through the sustainable management of the city's natural and physical resources - including the built environment - and providing a range of services. It managed Council's statutory planning and regulatory functions, including resource management, building and environmental health.
When established in 1991, there were eight management positions reporting to the General Manager Environment, Alistair Auburn. These were Administration, Animal Control, Building, City Planning, Environmental health, Parking Enforcement, Plumbing and Drainage, Survey and Land Information. Following a restructuring in 1992, these were reduced to five: Administration, Building and Development Services (merging Building and Plumbing and Drainage), Environment and Resource Management (merging Environmental Health and City Planning), Enforcement Services (bringing in Animal Control) and Survey and Land Information.
As a result of the restructuring of 1994/1995, its functions were then divided between relevant Commissioning and Service Delivery units. such as ???
