The maintenance and operation of the Kelburn-City cable car and the trolley bus overhead wiring was transferred from the former Transport Department to the company. Wellington Cable Car Ltd's functions are to: - maintain the cable cars and associated facilities, to Land Transport Safety Authority standards; - manage the contract for operation of the cable car; - manage contracts for maintenance of the trolley bus overhead wires; and - ensure the trolley bus wire system is in good, safe working order
