Date Range30 June 1991-DescriptionWellington Cable Car Ltd was established by Wellington City Council as a wholly-owned subsidiary on June 30 1991, following deregulation of public transport by the government and the requirements of the Transit New Zealand Act 1989. The maintenance and operation of the Kelburn-City cable car and the trolley bus overhead wiring was transferred from the former Transport Department to the company. Wellington Cable Car Ltd's functions are to: - maintain the cable cars and associated facilities, to Land Transport Safety Authority standards; - manage the contract for operation of the cable car; - manage contracts for maintenance of the trolley bus overhead wires; and - ensure the trolley bus wire system is in good, safe working order
