TypeOrganisationDate Range1976-presentDescriptionThe Flagstaff Hill Residents Association was formed in 1976 as a result of Wellington City Council's consultation of the proposed District Plan. The question asked was “What do you want in your Capital City?”. The group decided the answer was a residents' association for the area they described as Flagstaff Hill.
The area covered by the original association was bounded by Allenby Terrace steps, The Terrace and McDonald Crescent.
The first president was John Burns, Helen Smith was the first Secretary and Bruce Newcombe the first Treasurer. Other founding members included Ralph and Margaret Pannett, Neil Pryor, Roger Steele, Jim Heffernan, Ginny Fielden and Neville Peat and Debby Burns.
The association was behind one of the earliest resident's parking schemes and also one of the first community street festivals in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The Association now has "associated community" status with Inner City Wellington - an umbrella association for all central Wellington residents. Internal StructuresThe society was never incorporated and had no formal structure.
