Holmdale was a single screw motor vessel built in 1961 by Bodewes Scheepswervn, Martinshoek for the Holm Shipping Co. Ltd, Wellington.From 1962 the ship was operated by the USSCo for Holm shipping until 1981, when the USSCo bought the ship for its Chatham Island service. It was a small coaster that had been managed by USSCo since 1972 following the merger with Holm Shipping. It continued as the Chatham Island service until 1990 when the government withdrew the operating subsidy. In 1991 Holmdale was sold to Celtic Pacific Ltd, Cook Islands and renamed Celtic Kiwi.While enroute between Auckland and Norfolk Island the ship took a heavy list and was abandoned 180 miles north of North Cape. She sank on 27 October 1991.
