TSMV Kaiapoi II 1949-1973

The fourth ship in the Union Steam Ship Company's (USSCo’s) AC class, the TSMV Kaiapoi, was built by Henry Robb in 1949. As with the Kaitawa, the Kaiapoi served as a coastal coal carrier out of the West Coast. Although the ship nearly met a similar fate to the Kaitawa only a month after the disaster, the Kaiapoi served the USSCo reliably for 19 years before it was sold it to E K Litonjua Steamship Co Ltd in Manila and renamed Eddie K L.

The Kaiapoi continued to sail for another five years before being sold to Continental Shipbreaking Co Ltd in Hong Kong. The ship was demolished in 1973.
