MV Katea 1958-1975

The MV Katea was a freighter built for the Union Steam Ship Company (USSCo) in 1958. It was built by Alexander Stephen and Sons in Glasgow, Scotland as the sister ship to the MV Koraki and was the 13th built in the “K-class”. It was delivered to the USSCo on 28 July 1958.

The ship was built with several improvements from its predecessors, particularly in the crew accommodation which featured single berth cabins and carpeting. The MV Katea was also purpose built to meet increased livestock demands and included stalls for eight horses.

The ship was sold to new owners in the Republic of the Philippines in 1975 and renamed Saint Ursula. In 1982, it was broken up in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
