At the inaugural general meeting I A Frazer was elected as first chairman by those present.
Initial concerns that led the residents to form the Association was that other areas had rates being spent on improvements in them, but not seemingly in Oriental Bay. Common areas of contention were: general cleanliness, bus schedules, beach activity and development and refuse collection.
The Association over the years focused on being a voice for Oriental Bay.
It went dormant for a short while in the 1970s and then reformed as the Oriental Bay Ratepayers and Residents Association from 1981.
In 1993 the Association dropped "ratepayers" from the name as it was no longer thought appropriate and the more universal term Residents Association Inc was adopted encompassing everyone living in Oriental Bay and those interested in it's wellbeing.
As of 2025 the Association still exists and in 2021 their website stated they had 174 paid subscribers.
The initial subscription cost 2/6 annually. As of 2025 the cost is $25 annually. Internal StructuresA committee is elected at an annual AGM.External LinksOriental Bay Residents Association
