TypeAgencyDate Range1991-DescriptionThe University of the Third Age, is an international movement whose aims are the education and stimulation of mainly retired members of the community — those in their third 'age' of life. There is no universally accepted model for the U3A, and it was established in Aoatearoa New Zealand by the late 1980s.
The aims of U3A are:
- to share knowledge and continue the education of people of the Third Age
- to provide activities and interests for people of the Third Age to enhance their wellbeing
- to encourage members to form interactive groups, both to share knowledge and to pursue active involvement in new fields.
U3A Eastern Suburbs, Wellington, was set up in 1991. It draws members from Miramar, Seatoun, Hataitai, Kilbirnie, Strathmore, Breaker Bay and Lyall Bay.
