The information contained is legally privileged, and is comprised of evidence collected as part of the claim process and settlement documentation.

Evidence includes information such as copies of building consent documentation, reports by WHRS assessors and builders, and inspection reports by WCC officers. The files also contain legal documentation such as remediation reports, adjudication documentation and records of court cases and settlements.

The files are indexed using the numbering system used by Building Consents and Licensing Services’ (BCLS) property correspondence files. Known as “LINK” or “WUFI” files, each property has a unique number. Files have multiple parts where there is a large volume of material. The indexing matches the LINK files already held by Archives (Series 00666).

Files were transferred to Archives once the complaint they related to was resolved. Due to the nature of the information in these files, their access is restricted. Details of the settlement are confidential unless the matter was finalised via adjudication, in this instance a copy of the decision only may be provided.
