WCC, Transport Department's administrative files (2nd series)
Descriptive Data
Archives Identifier00700Date Range1936-1986DescriptionThis series is the multiple-number subject file system created by the Transport Department (from 1972 it was also known as Wellington City Transport). The file system of the Transport Department was reorganised in the early 1970s to allow the reallocation of several sub-series that had fallen out of use, in particular those file numbers that had been used for Tram-related matters. The sub-series in this system are very similar to those used in series 00062 and many files that predate 1970 were carried into this one. The series ends in the early 1980s when it was once again reorganised.
The files contain evidence of operational, legislative, financial, and administrative actions of the Transport Department. The files cover such topics as the purchasing of buses, hiring of staff, alterations to the bus system, and the general day-to-day running of bus services for the city. The files are based on the 'Series System' (or multiple number subject system) where consecutive numbers are allotted to principal subjects. The principal subjects are subdivided by the addition of bar numbers. For example, file 301 holds general correspondence on Services, 301/1 holds correspondence on the Aotea Quay Service, 301/2 holds correspondence on the Brooklyn Service, and so on.
The following sub-series were used by this file system:
