Archives IdentifierAF031Date RangeCirca 1918-1968DescriptionThis series is incomplete; all cards for last names after Quirke and beginning with the letter R are missing. These cards record employment information about providore staff - stewards and catering staff, who joined as early as 1895 and left or were still working after 1918, and those joining or leaving up to about 1960. There are a few cards for those joining and leaving during the 1960s up to 1968. The cards can, but do not always, record name, age, place of birth, date of first joining, position (steward, cook, baker, waiter, pantryman, scullion, bugler, cadet) with description (forecabin, bedroom, boots, etc.), name of ship, dates of service, reasons for leaving, and the port where they departed. There are multiple cards for long-serving staff and a few have attachments such as records of service, notes about conduct and dismissal, newspaper death notices, etc. From about 1906 a card system was being created as well as the register.
