Archives Identifier00193Date Range1971-1974DescriptionAt the beginning of their terms of office the Mayor and Councillors meet and decide on the number and status of committees to be set up. The Mayor is an ex officio member of all committees, with a small number of councillors making up the rest of each committee. The Clerk of Committees, is responsible for taking minutes and ensuring that they are, signed, indexed and bound into volumes. Committees set the direction of work of Council departments, make decisions within their delegated authority, and refer to the full Council any decisions for which they do not have delegated authority. The minutes of Standing Committees are public documents, unless the committee has formally gone into closed session. The minutes of one off or ad hoc committees are not necessarily public. This committee dealt with staff matters, including appeals and grading, much of which is confidential, it also dealt with bylaws and traffic matters, which are not normally confidential. Volumes may include reports, newspaper cuttings, maps and plans as well as minutes. Notes: For Tramways and Dairy Workers Awards see 00184. Staff matters are also dealt with in the finance related series: 00191, 00192 & 00197.Quantity (Linear Metres)0.22MediumBound VolumeSystem of ArrangementMinutes are arranged in meeting date order and indexed by subject matter.Collection TypeWellington City Council
